Structured Synthetic Phonics Programs

Strong literacy skills are fundamental in supporting children’s reading, writing, language and comprehension skills. When supporting literacy development it is essential to have an evidence based program to follow to achieve the best outcomes.

Sounds Write is a Structured Synthetic Phonics Program (SSPP). It is underpinned by synthetic phonics principles which support children to segment (separate) and blend (combine) the sounds within words to accurately read and spell. It differs from traditional phonics as this approach does not encourage rote learning the way words ‘look’ or to remember rules that do not always apply to some spelling variations.

This program, and other SSPPs are recommended by our Speech Pathologists, as they are evidence based, can be used with children of any age, and promotes multi-sensory engagement as children learn using auditory, visual, and kinaesthetic input.
